Temporary anchorage devices, or TADs, are small titanium anchors utilized in orthodontics to enhance tooth movement efficiently and comfortably. They can be used alongside braces or as a substitute for headgear.
Placement of TADs
Placement involves numbing the gum tissue and the surrounding jaw area with a strong anesthetic. Once numbed, your doctor will insert the TAD through the gum into the jawbone. The procedure is swift and painless, though you might feel pressure. Any sensation typically subsides within a day, and the TAD remains until it is no longer necessary for your treatment. Removing a TAD is quick and painless, usually completed in just a few minutes.
Managing Discomfort
Should you experience discomfort post-placement, over-the-counter pain relievers like Advil or Motrin are recommended. If discomfort persists, contact your dentist promptly.
Cleaning Your TAD
Maintain the cleanliness of your TAD in the same manner as braces—by brushing your teeth at least three times a day.
Don’t hesitate to contact our practice for any further inquiries about TADs or your orthodontic treatment. We’re here to provide all the necessary information and ensure a smooth treatment process.
